Night Owls is an EP by Slapshock, released on April 26, 2014 by apl.de.ap's label BMBX Entertainment.

BMBX was formed in 2014. The label aims to sign South East Asian artists and give them a Western-style production by collaborating with musicians in Los Angeles. The label sources its talent from the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia.

Night owls was the carrier single of Slapshock that was released on the same year. It received positive reviews from the fans

The crown

This is my favorite song in the EP! I like the heaviness on the song, well balanced ang bigat at ang melody. My favorite part is on the chorus parts, You will love to sing along sabay head bang. madadala ka doon sa bigat ng kanta. I praise Apl De Ap’s rapping parts, he performed very well and It fits the song. The song has a mix of the nu metal “due to rapping” and metalcore “due to melodies”.

The lyrical content tells about abused and corrupt officials. The song relates to the current happenings in the society. Slapshock use this song to show what ‘s sad reality happening in the society and giving us to take action for those who abuses in the position.

Did you know that aside from Apl de ap, the music was produced by Shavo Odadjian of System of a Down.

Turn Back Time

Despite the song offers heavy melodies, the song brings out emotional vibe thru the lyrics. The song tells about repentance. Instead of headbanging the song, you will feel emotional about the song, ramdam mo yung lungkot as you listen the lyrics further. In fact mas dala ko yung bigat ng kanta, especially noong nabalitaan natin ang pagkamatay ni Jamir. I usually play this track along with Langit, Sana pag gising and Luha.

I praise Jamir’s singing, nadadala niya yung kanta. The arrangements of the song is good and the dynamics is nice.

Night Owls

The execution of the song is good, the riffs is catchy, the drum work brings out the heaviness on the song and Jamir’s vocal balances the heaviness of the song. You will love to sing along with Jamir and It has a repetitive chorus that you will easily remember. In terms of lyrical content, I thought this song is all about nocturnal life but the song is about you vs the world.

Coma

When I heard first the song I said “wow ang bigat ng tunog”, the melody kinda reminds on the intro of “im broken” of pantera. Parang may pagka groovemetal ang approach ng kanta na to and liking it so much.

Dangerous

I like the instrumental parts, very catchy to the ears. Ito yung nagdadala doon sa kanta. The riffs is heavy that you will enjoy so much, nakaka eargasm siya. Combined with Drum attacks, ang bigat ng atake and you won’t hesistate to bang your head. Pinaka favorite kong part sa kanta, yung guitar parts doon bridge. Ang sarap sa tenga ng guitar riffs.

I could say on this EP is underrated! It doesn’t often play live with the likes of Carino Brutal , Atake and other known songs of Slapshock but I could say that this EP brings the finest Slapshock sound. For me I could consider this EP as their Dark Horse on Slapshock’s Discography.

In terms of production, napaka bigatin ang quality na binuhos sa album. Smart move ang ginawa nila nag pa under sila sa bmbx entertainment. You will see the huge difference of mixing, arrangements and sound quality if you compare it on their previous discographies. Pang International ang level ng album na to. Slapshock brings out the heaviest sound in this EP. All of the songs I enjoyed it so much. Mas nag enjoy ako ng todo sa album na to kesa sa Atake album nila. For me, mas mataas ang standards ng sound ng Night Owls vs Atake.

For me, the songs were least exposed on live set. Sana binigyan pa ang mas maraming exposure yung mga song especially yung “The crown” since it give out the catchy and heavy sound at the same time or baka nagkakamali ako since di ko naman nawitness ang tour nila sa Night Owls.
