Iron Maiden – The Writing On The Wall

IRON MAIDEN IS BACK WITH NEW SINGLE ENTITLED, The Writing On The Wall! This is the new chapter of the band featuring their 17th studio album, SENJUTSU! On July 15, Iron Maiden released a new track titled "The Writing on the Wall," along with an animated music video posted on band's YouTube channel. This is their first new music since 2015’s Book of Souls — composed Adrian Smith and Bruce Dickinson, produced by Kevin Shirley, and co-produced by bassist and founding member Steve Harris.

The first few seconds of the song, it kinda surprised me, it has a different vibe, especially on the intro. It has more with Southern Rock style and the tempo is slow. I usually wanting the pump up and fast paced tempo on maiden’s song like, The Trooper, 2 minutes, Wasted years, The wicker man.. To name a few. But when Bruce hits the vocals, it kicks in the Maiden Style.

I love how Bruce singings, he never gets old on delivering his great vocals! It has clarity and powerful at the same time. The catchy guitar riffs brings in the classic rock / metal vibe that brings you to the 80s metal and I do appreciate on how guitarist deliver it. It very ear satisfying and relaxing at the same time.

On the lyrics, I could say maiden has always bringing a deep message on their song, the song has a biblical reference but it tells more about the story of a post apocalyptic world, distressed by the upper class. Engulfed by suffering, when a commoner tries to surpass the barrier to a place the rich have created for themselves, he gets destroyed by a power from above.

I love as well the music video, it visualizes the song itself and gives a lot of Easter eggs, as usual for maiden they love to do this since their earlier tracks. Let me give you some of the easter eggs there

1. You could see the Piece of Mind Ring on hooded guy’s hand

2. "The Trooper" where you could see the Union Jack Flag

3. Clockface on the dessert reads 2 Minutes to Midnight

4. Part of Eddie’s Cyborg body of Somewhere in time album

5. 'No Prayer for the Dying' Tombstone

Just to mention a few. I love how Maiden incorporates all of these pieces in the song. I remember when I checking the Somewhere in Time album, I spent some time to check all the easter egg there. Same on this song, It’s fun to watch all the iron maiden references there.

Overall its great that maiden released another excellent track, looking forward as well on their new album and looking forward to review that album as well
